61-year-old man arrested in six cheating cases | Serial conman arrested |

Police from Clementi division picked up the 61-year-old man in Woodlands Street 13 on Thursday morning. In all the cases reported, the suspect would approach elderly persons at their HDB flats, saying he was a neighbour living in the same block.

He would then claim that his daughter was injured and ask the victims to lend him money for his daughter's medical expenses. After the victims handed him the cash, he would give them fictitious particulars and promise to repay them. They never saw him again.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to be involved in at least six such cheating cases. The man will be charged in court on Friday, and faces jail of up to 10 years and a fine, if convicted.

Police advise members of the public to be wary of strangers and to call for the police if they sense something amiss.
