Total sales at Singapore's biggest travel fair last weekend knocked out all previous records. By the end of the three-day event - one of two held by the National Association of Travel Agents Singapore (Natas) annually - 70,469 visitors had snapped up more than $85 million in travel deals, an increase of 14 per cent
While Bali, Bintan and Malaysia were popular last year, more are travelling to farther-away Asia-Pacific nations, or chalking up more miles on their holidays. In a year that has seen travel agents enjoy rising sales despite higher air-ticket prices, China, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Europe were the five hottest destinations (not listed in any particular order) at the Natas fair.
NATAS CEO Robert Khoo said pent-up demand and the improving economy contributed to the record breaking numbers. The top five most popular destinations were China, Europe, Japan, Korea and Taiwan. There was also increased interest in destinations like Australia.
