Patrol groups in Bukit Panjang will be beefed up and volunteers will be trained by police to identify gang activity in the neighbourhood. He said about 70 volunteers will receive hands-on training from the police soon. They will also be taught how to identify gang activities and potential violence.
Dr Teo Ho Pin, MP for Bukit Panjang Constituency revealed on Sunday extra measures the government was taking to beef up security in the estate.
He said that Bukit Panjang has been a safe neighbourhood and, based on crime records, has enjoyed a lower crime rate when compared to other areas. Dr Teo said: "I don't think we need to be overly alarmed but I think we should be more alert."
